Things I Wish I Knew That First Week After Delivery

I figured I'd write this down before it gets much closer to my due date and prego brain really kicks in. Here are some things I wish I knew during the first week after I had Peanut. Giving birth, whether Caesarean or vaginal is magical yet exhausting, and there were so many things I forgot to do and/or wish I had known to do. I'll continue adding to this list my thoughts or advice from fellow mommy friends until they wheel me into the delivery room.

1. Remember to take a photo of you, your husband, and the baby together at the hospital. You might want a photo with the doctor too.

2. Don't be shy about sending the baby to the hospital nursery. You'll have the next 18 years to bond with your bundle of joy.

3. Add these items to your go-bag: Boppy with prewashed cover on, newborn nail clippers, make-up and hair brush, and nipple cream.

4. Rumor has it that you do NOT need to wake the baby up every 3 hours to feed. Is this true?

5. Take more advantage of all your post-partum helpers because they're only there for a short time.

6. Start pumping sooner. This may not be something to accomplish that first week home, but I'm definitely going to break out the breast pump earlier than I did the first time around. I don't want to deprive my husband of the precious bonding time he'll get to have with our second child.

7. Have bottles washed and formula readily accessible, even though you're planning on breast feeding.

8. It gets easier after 3 months.

one of the nurses told us that the baby will tell you when he/she is hungry - no need for the 3 hour wake up - but being first time parents, we did it anyway. i think we will do it different next time in the future.

i wish i had taken a nice outfit for myself.
pillows for the hubby. those couches are awful.

AHA! So the rumor is true. We woke Peanut up every 3 hours. I remember undressing him in the middle of winter to keep him awake because he wasn't hungry, he was sleepy!

Also, great advice. I need to add a nice outfit to my go-bag.

I have minimal, or no advice here Kim! You did quite a great job with the first!

Perhaps just more visits from Uncle Adam!!

Good to know all that. I'm not ready any time soon.
