Piercing Rocky's Ears

I got Rocky's ears pierced yesterday. I was pretty anxious about it and even dragged my girlfriend, Megan, with me for moral support. I knew I had to do it now, when she won't remember the event, or wait until she's thirteen when she asks for them herself. Also, it's a Vietnamese thing to get girls' ears pierced around one month of age, so this will also get my mom off my back.

Thanks to Tia Corrina's suggestion, I took Rocky to Claire's where they have lots of experience piercing ears. Some pediatrician's offices offer ear piercings too, but I doubt a nurse gets as many requests as someone working at Claire's.

The woman that helped me was great. Before she began, she marked Rocky's ears with a marker and let me approve the location before proceeding. She was very patient because it took about five attempts before I felt they were exactly symmetrical. Then she gave me the run down and told me Rocky would react very similarly to getting a shot. Rocky cried, but stopped after about a minute. It certainly wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.

The earrings will have to remain in her ears for about 6-8 weeks and cleaned with a solution they provided three times a day. They recommend keeping some sort of earrings in for a year to ensure they don't close back up.
