Peanut @ 43 months old

Peanut and J are racing up the stairs. Here's their conversation:

Peanut: I'm faster than you.
J: It's because I'm getting old.
Peanut: We're going to have to get a new one.
J: A new what?
Peanut: A new daddy.

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but Peanut gets nose bleeds pretty frequently. He's been getting them since he was 6 months old. It's hereditary, courtesy of me. Peanut's had them so long that he knows exactly what to do. It could be 2 AM, in a brand new house, and he calmly walks down the stairs, wakes me up, and goes to the bathroom sink so the blood doesn't get everywhere. They're occurring more and more frequently, so we decided it was time to see an ENT for a more aggressive solution. We had been keeping his nose moisturized, but it's just not cutting it. It seems like nasal cauterization is the next step. This procedure can usually be done in the doctor's office, but since Peanut's so young and the cauterization stings, we're going to have to put him under general anesthesia at the hospital.

Peanut started at his new school a couple of weeks ago and is doing really well. His teacher says he understands a lot of Spanish and has been a big help to her with the kids who don't understand the language. She'll ask the kids to do something, Peanut will get up to do it, and the other kids will follow. She says he speaks a lot of Spanish too. (This is all news to me!)

Putting on shoes before heading off to his first day of school. Sister's there for moral support.

I'm starting to see something I've never seen before ... Peanut playing by himself. Perhaps he's at the age where he will actually play on his own. I can give him some paper and markers or Play-Doh and he'll entertain himself.

Peanut's drawings are more recognizable. Check out the pirate boat he drew with skull and crossbones flag. (Pirate is courtesy of dad.)

Peanut is definitely growing up, physically, mentally, and emotionally. He still needs one nap a day and whines when he doesn't get what he wants, but most of the time, is pretty rational and easy going. He's still non-stop talking, but does feign shyness around new people. Pirates are still close to his heart, but Toy Story (Buzz Lightyear and Woody) made quite an impact on him ever since we watched all three movies while Nana Ruthie Pooh was here in July.
