Senioritis

Dilbert Happy Retirement! Helium Mylar Balloon 18" - Click Image to Close

Today is J's last day of work.  Tomorrow, he will officially be retired.  It's strange to say that because he is so young.  He's worked hard and I'm so proud of my husband.  Although, in the last couple of weeks, I've definitely seen signs of senioritis, which for my husband says a lot because he never takes off early for anything.

I've talked to a couple of friends who retired early and both have experienced some type of depression.  I remember being in a "funk" (and not even knowing it) after I stopped working to have Peanut.  I think after you've worked for so long and all of a sudden stop, you definitely go through a morphed form of postpartum depression.  J's convinced he has so much to do and is more concerned that he won't have enough time to do it; rather than having too much time on his hands.

J's co-workers took him out for a farewell dinner on Wednesday night where they reminisced about the good old days.  Today co-workers have been stopping in his office to say goodbye and put together a farewell slideshow which has been running on the flat screens throughout the building.  That slideshow would have brought me to tears, but J's holding up pretty well.  He's definitely feeling sentimental, but no tears have been shed.  J says it feels like watching your child go off to college.  I think with our impending trip to Paris, J doesn't have time for it to sink in, but come September when things settle down, the kids are back at school, and I'm off doing my thing that J may need a little love from his former co-workers.
